What is CONNECTING COMMUNITIES?

Connecting Communities is an initiative by Mehrdar Art & Production Pvt. Ltd to promote acceptance, tolerance, peace, diversity, and interfaith harmony. This initiative offers two fellowships opportunities to 120 youth across 12 communities of Karachi under two separate categories i.e. Films & Campaigns on the above-mentioned themes.

What we do?

Call for Ideas:

Mehrdad Art & Production Pvt. Ltd is announcing an open call for ideas for short fiction films and innovative creative campaigns on the themes of acceptance, tolerance, peace, diversity, and interfaith harmony.

Selection of Fellows:

120 Fellows will be selected based on the best-proposed ideas. (Women are highly encouraged to apply)

Implementation of proposed ideas:

Fellows clubbed in groups of 5 will receive in-kind support from Mehrdar Art & Production Pvt. Ltd to implement a total of 24 refined ideas (12 Films & 12 campaigns).

Certifying Fellows

The 120 fellows will receive a certification of their learning and achievement!

Exhibition:

The final Films and campaigns will be showcased all across Karachi within and outside of local communities to spark discussions and spread awareness by engaging stakeholders, institution, media, and government officials within the community and grand exhibition.

Training & Mentoring:

Selected Fellows will undertake 96 hours of training. 60 Fellows will undergo film-based training, while the other 60 will undergo campaign-based training. Fellows will refine their ideas into final projects.

How to Apply?

Passionate youth with innovative campaign ideas and creative film stories promoting acceptance, tolerance, peace, diversity and interfaith harmony between the ages of 18 - 30. Applicants should be residents of Gulzar E Hijri, Pehlwan Goth, Paposh Nagar, Sakhi Hassan, Saeedabad, Maripur, Shireen Jinnah Colony, Chakra Goth Korangi, Ibrahim Hyderi, and Lyari (Khada Memon Society, Nawabad, Chakiwara) can apply by submitting their ideas to us!

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Is there a fee to the course?

No. Connecting communities is a free, merit based fellowship.

Where will the training be held?

Connecting Communities as the name suggests will take participants of all communities to a central venue like a hotel space e.g: Beach Luxury, Regent Plaza etc. to train participants.  

Does Connecting Communities program accommodate transport of participants?

Yes for training purposes, the program team will provide transport to candidates from all communities to reach the venue and get home safely.

What is the duration of training?

The total duration of the training is 12 days – 8 hours per day in total making 96 hour learning program. Participants will undergo two training programs of 6 days to complete the 12 days

Does Connecting Communities provide financial or In-Kind support for execution of Films & Campaigns?

Yes the program provides in-kind and/or financial support up to PKR 250,000/- per group to execute the final film and/or campaign within their communities.

Can girls/women participate in the program?

Yes. Girls/women are highly encouraged to participate.

Is there an age criteria to enroll into Connecting Communities Fellowship?

Yes. Youth between the ages of 18-30 can enroll within the program.

Will I get a certificate for attending training only?

No. Campaigns and Films are Mandatory parts of the program and must be completed as a task to demonstrate your completion of the fellowship. Connecting Communities certifies fellows when you complete the program successfully.

Is there a refreshment/food break within the training?

Yes. All trainings include tea breaks and a Lunch break.

What is the process of selection at Connecting Communities?

There is a three step process to participate in Connecting Communities:

  1. Fill the registration form to submit & demonstrate your already existing film or campaign idea.
  2. Based on your given Idea, you will be invited for an interview.
  3. After the interview you will receive a call from our program team to confirm your registration.
